Spanish firm Solaria is to invest 5.7 billion dollars in data centres in Uruguay

The project, which will operate under a free-trade zone regime, will involve an investment of 5.5 billion dollars in data centres and a further 200 million dollars to install 350 megawatts of solar power generation.

“We are announcing this investment not as a trophy nor as a counterpoint to Uruguay’s historic projects or previous initiatives; it is the result of a process of national development and forms part of a challenge that recognises the need for many complementary projects across different aspects of Uruguay’s economic life,” said Orsi.

“It is a signal from Uruguay to the world. We are a country where you can invest, where you can grow, and where the rules are clear,” the president added.
