The waste treatment giants are forming alliances to compete for Spain’s largest waste treatment facility, the Las Lomas plant, in the Valdemingómez Technology Park in Madrid. According to market sources familiar with the process, FCC and Prezero, on the one hand, and Veolia and Valoriza, on the other, have agreed to form separate joint ventures to take part in the tender for the upgrading and management of the incinerator. Meanwhile, Urbaser will also bid either alone or with a partner, and is holding talks with groups such as the French firm Paprec to finalise a third partnership.
