The Régis Bittencourt concession covers the section of the BR-116-SP/PR motorway linking the São Paulo ring road with Curitiba, in Paraná. Arteris has been managing this motorway since 2008. The concession period was set at 25 years, meaning it is due to expire in February 2033. However, last year the ANTT, the Federal Court of Auditors (TCU) and the Abertis subsidiary reached an agreement to restructure the contract and launch a new competitive tender process to accelerate the investments the motorway requires. Under this agreement, the concession will be extended by eight years, until 2041.
The Brazilian government will auction the new contract on the country’s stock exchange, B3, on Thursday 23 July. As revealed by the authorities several weeks ago, the process has attracted at least five bidders, reportedly including industrial groups and specialist funds.
